In the event of a fire, a room protected by a conventional fire sprinkler system will discharge water directly onto energized electrical equipment that will leave the electrical equipment inoperable. While the system is effective in putting out the fire, the loss of electrical equipment is unnecessary.
Clean agent suppression systems have electronic detection installed within the room that would recognize the fire at an earlier stage. The power to electronic equipment within the room would be removed and local audio-visual devices would alert occupants of the systems' impending discharge. At this point the clean agent would be released into the room extinguishing the fire.

Common Clean Agent Questions answered::
Q. I am turning an existing storage room in my building into a server room. Currently this are is covered by a fire sprinkler system. Is it possible to remove the fire sprinkler coverage and install a clean agent suppression system?
A. Although it is subject to approval by the AHJ, most instances allow you to replace existing fire sprinkler coverage with an alternate fire suppression system such as a clean agent.
Q. I currently have a small computer room for my business that I am planning to expand in the future. If I install a clean agent suppression system now, will I be able to expand it to cover the new area in the future or would I have to put in a second system?
A. There wouldn't be a need to start over or put in a second system when you expand. Normally additional equipment and agent will be needed, but normally your existing system can be incorporated into the expansion.
