Backflow devices prevent your water system(s) from contaminating the city's water supply. If you have a fire sprinkler system, irrigation system, commercial kitchen, or laundry facility, chances are you have a backflow preventer.
All water districts require backflow devices to pass an annual test conducted by a certified inspector. A device that fails inspection needs to be repaired so that it will pass the annual test. Non- compliance can lead to costly fines and even cause your water to be shut off.
Smith Fire Systems Managements' technicians are licensed and trained to test, service, and repair your device(s). For more information regarding
your backflow prevention device(s) or to receive a quote, please contact us at info@smithfire.com.
Common Backflow Concerns/Questions:
Q. We keep having to replacing our tamper switches that are getting wet.
A. Most likely the backflow device(s) are in vaults that become submerged. A simple sump pump
in the bottom of the vault would alleviate this issue.
Q. Our backflow seems to fail almost yearly.
A. The city water supplies can carry debris into the backflows causing them to fail. Making sure the
city is flushing mains regularly is a way to eliminate this problem.
Q. Broken / Frozen irrigation backflow preventers.
A. Putting insulation into the vault to keep the ground warmth on the backflow helps. Also, when
shutting down an irrigation system for winter, shut off the second control valve so that the
interior parts don't dry out.
